Mr. Swift writes:

My representative in the Saint Paul city council
evidently did not take up my suggestion to use this
rare opportunity to share his intentions publicly, and
I am anxiously awaiting his public announcement!

Thune has already expressed his intentions publically - here on this list. Thune had the help of many gay leaders in the St Paul community (Paul Skrbec was especially visible). Anti-gay activists were not part of Thune's winning coalition. Maybe Mr Swift should run against Mr Thune in the next election.

I'm sure that Dave appreciates the support he see's on
this forum, but I also believe that he is smart enough
to recognise that the folks who participate in this
forum do not exactly form a reliable sample of his
constituency, and if he is unsure of that fact, I'd
love to have the opportunity to educate him!

Actually Thune's ward doesn't strike me as the demographic that would show up at that rally. I doubt there were many from his ward at this rally at the capitol.

From what I hear - and I didn't go to watch the circus - but both sides were down at the capitol.

Thursday will be OutFront's Day on the Hill. It will be interesting to see what happens there. Last year there were over 2000 people at OutFront's rally.

I'm just curious though - which other Republicans - besides Bachmann - spoke at the rally? Why aren't their other Republican cosponsors on the Senate bill besides Bachmann and Reiter on this bill? Were any elected St Paul politicians at that rally? I didn't see any mentioned?

Why not? Because St Paul isn't a city motivated by anti-gay hostility. Things have changed considerably in St Paul since 1978 when a referendum overturned a non-discrimination city ordinance.
