Some very strong and passionate opinions have been expressed over the last few days that did NOT resort to name calling or insults. Thanks to those of you who made the effort.
However, some members of the list would like me to take the position, that if another member of this list holds opinions that are offensive to them or disagreeable - that its ok to call to them names and sling insults.
I am not willing to make that concession.
It is my opinion, that as members of this forum we should be willing to accept as a condition of participation, that we will not call each other names and insult each other - regardless of how much we dislike each others opinions.
If we are to maintain political diversity within the forum, that is our only option. We must accept the fact, that by participating in this space, we will sometimes find ourselves upset or offended by what others say or profess. This does not give us reason to demean or insult them.
Many of our members have demonstrated their ability to post strong and clear denunciations of opposing viewpoints, without the need to call names.
Characterizing another list members comments as "ignorant prattle" is in my opinion, nothing more than name-calling and as the list manager, I will treat it as such.
If you have any feedback or comments about the "civility" rules/guidelines for the St. Paul Issues Forum, please take them to our special RULES list:
