Tom, I chose not to respond to the issues you raised regarding the
cultural differences between senator Mau's homeland and America. I
chose not to respond because I would then have to raise a lot of
other cultural issues most Americans find difficult to understand.

Cultural differences may or may not be related to theological
belief. In many cases they are not related to Judea Christian
belief. The United States was founded on the principle of religious
freedom. While there are obvious reasons that we need to limit what
some of these beliefs allow their followers to do, that doesn't mean
we should automatically follow what this or that group of religious
leaders tell us.

It has already been said in this discussion that we need to
separate what our religions allow us to do in the context of
marriage and what civil authority allow us to do in its context of
marriage. this may be the same and they may be different. But both
exist for distinctly different reasons.

I hate to bring up the civil rights card again. But I ask you,
where did discrimination of persons of different color come from?
Why did it take so much pain to change the laws on discrimination.
What were those Christian ministers peaching in their churches? It
certainly couldn't have been Love your neighbor as yourself.

Ahh yes Mike. It is indeed easier sometimes to invent
issues than to honestly confront those that challenge
our strongly held beliefs isn't it?

Outrage duly noted.

So how about taking a whack at actually addressing the
issue I brought up?
