Yesterday afternoon, the Senate Transportation Committee took up the bill sent over
from the House that had an increase in the speed limit on Interstate 35E from West 7th
to Downtown. First action out of the chute was for the Committee to remove that
section of the bill, followed by a thoughtful discussion of speed limits on rural
roads and safety, ending with the Committee deciding not to send the bill on to the
full Senate.

List participant Repke was there, ready to tell the tale of how we got to where we
are. I was there to try to explain the downsides of disobeying federal court orders
and breaking your promises and ignoring the specific mitigation terms embodied in
final Environmental Impact Statements. Other folks were there to explain things far
more clearly than Repke or I ever could. But given the removal of that section, we
just sat there, watching laws be made.
