Hi All!

All the nonsense with the DFL fillibuster of an amendment to require driver
tests be administered in English might obsure the fact that Wilkin's amendment
to up the limit on 35E to a reasonable, common sense 55mph went down in flames
yet again.

Opponents made the tired arguments about the State facing a lawsuit (who? where
are they gonna get the money?) and a one minute savings of time from Shepard
Road to 94.

What Wilkin should have argued, and this is the point, is that 45 is unrealistic
and feels unnatural, creates dangerous disparities in speed, and 55 is
reflective of reality. I believe strongly that speed limits that reflect
reality reduce accidents and smooth the flow of traffic.

When the limit on 35E going to Duluth was 55, I invested in radar detectors and
went with the 70mph flow, even though I still arrived with a sore neck from
stress. When the limit went to 70, traffic smoothed out beautifully at 70-75 --
very seldom do gross violaters fly by, and if they do I pray for them to get
caught before they kill themselves or others. No more need for radar detectors,
no more sore neck. Just a comfortable drive at a safe and comfortable speed.

Get politics out of speed limits and let the expert engineers at the DOT decide.

Cheers!
