Anyone concerned about the proposed Wal-Mart here in St. Paul might be interested in Wal-Mart's tactics in California. There, they attempted to go around local regulatory bodies by sponsoring a ballot initiative that would have exempted their development in Inglewood, CA from all local oversight. It was reported that the company spent $1 million pushing the initiative. Fortunately, the effort failed: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/07/national/07CND-WALM.html?hp
This is a company that obviously is prepared to play hardball.

Haven't figured out the the state legislators are getting yet to deny local referendums on taxes.
So the St. Paul topic must be how do we get control back? any ideas?
