I hope that participants understand, that the financial support that E-Democracy is seeking will help us expand our work and the opportunities for citizen involvement in St. Paul. Here are a few projects that are under consideration, but that will require financial support:

 1) BLOCK CLUB LEADERS LIST - For several months, we have
been discussing the possibility of setting up a special
listserve for block club leaders to exchange information
and ideas. This project would be a partnership with
    district councils.

 2) ST PAUL ANNOUNCEMENTS - We are very close to launching
a special announcements-only list in St. Paul. This would
be a low volume alternative to the St. Paul Issues Forum
where citizens could keep up with what is happening in
St. Paul, without necessarily participating in all of
    our discussions.

 3) SPECIAL TOPICS LIST - We are considering an alternative
list or forum that would tackle specific topics for one
week at a time. The list would be limited to those topics
and various organizations in the community would help
present background info for each topic that we tackle.

We are already talking with organizations about co-sponsoring
    discussions around the following topics:

        - The Arts In St. Paul
        - The Future of University Ave.
        - Housing 5000
        - Downtown

  4) A WEB PORTAL - A web based discussion platform where
St. Paul citizens could discuss many different issues
that are currently not allowed in the St. Paul Issues
     Forum.

  5) E-CITIZENSHIP TRAINING - We think that E-Democracy
would be the logical organization to offer classes
and workshops in the community on how citizens can
use the internet to inform themselves, interact with
city government, and advocate for neighborhood issues.
We could partner with libraries or district councils
     to achieve these goals.

  6) YOUTH PROJECTS - Connecting young people with city
     government through the electronic media.

Any ideas?

However, it will take financial resources for us to grow beyond the scope of what we are already doing with strictly volunteer resources. Please, be a part of our efforts.

The first step towards attracting additional funding, is getting $1500 in support from our members. We have $700 so far. As Gary Eichten (MPR) would say, its "crunch time." We are almost to the end of our pledge drive and still need lots of support.

E-mail or call if you have any questions or suggestions or just want to pledge!

Best wishes,

"The St. Paul Issues Forum is a interactive e-mail discussion on important issues about St. Paul public policy. Participation is free and open to anyone. We currently have about 350 concerned citizens and community leaders subscribed to our discussion."
