Interesting article about demographic trends in the Twin Cities. I've attached some quotes below that specifically relate to St. Paul and Ramsey county.

I would think that the Mayor's "Housing 5000" effort should help lead towards a noticeable increase in St. Paul population in the next census.

How many people are worried about the rate of growth (or shrinking) in St. Paul?

Population surge continues in far suburbs

Central cities, inner-ring suburbs hold steady, census estimates say

"At the center of the metro area, Ramsey and Hennepin counties saw only slight changes in population of less than 1 percent each, according to the estimates. Ramsey County lost 4,800 residents, falling to 506,355, while Hennepin gained 5,000 residents, for a total of 1.12 million."

"The Census Bureau, for example, estimated that St. Paul had lost 15,000 between 1990 and 1999, when the census headcount done in 2000 showed the city had gained 15,000 people, said Mark Vander Schaaf, of the St. Paul Planning and Economic Development Department. He said he expected the same would hold true in 2010, when the next census takes place. The city, for one thing, expects to add 7,000 housing units in the next decade."
