Is there really a safety problem on the 35E Parkway? I
doubt there is. Removing the trucks has probably made
that stretch of highway safer than most. I'm unaware
of any serious accidents on it. So this safety issye
seems like a make-weight argument to me.
Also, why should drivers concerns be the deciding
factor? The 45 mph limit is the result of a compromise
between the interests of drivers and the neighborhood
that was victimized by this road. What justification
is there for reneging on the promises made at the time
the roadway was approved?
At some point we've got to stop catering to the whims
of people who choose to locate themselves in
inconvenient loacations and then demand that other
people sacrifice to alleviate their inconveniences
(not that asking people to spend another minute or two
to traverse that stretch of 35E is any real
inconvenience).
