On one parcel of land alone at the GSE complex (Parcel No. 122823230112) the outstanding Sewer Assessment is $688,520.35. There are five or six parcels in the complex, but not all of them have such amounts due. Now, given that the total property tax payable on the complex is about $135,000 per year,
So they owe 5x for water than what their property taxes are. Now it has been an ongoing rumour that they also owe Excell a fair sized sum of money, unfortunately it is JUST RUMOUR cause you can't get that kind of information from Excell unless your the owner.
The Strib story says they owe over $1 million in past-due taxes and assessments.
So your saying it's alot deeper than just the Water, sorry for the pun
Inventive and creative? Yes. Surprising? No.
Unscrupuplous? YES
I understand that there is a proposal at the legislature that would make
sure that local governmental units would have the right to make claim on the
ethanol producer subsidy to satisfy back taxes due by plants. Makes sense to this taxpayer.
And this one as well. I mean if a person doesn't pay their child support, or do other things, they just garnish it from any sort of payment you might get from the state in the form of a refund or what ever. You know they will even take away your license to operate if you don't do somethings.
This is just totally outragous. Maybe a Council or Ramsey County Commissioner Resolution to treat business the same as they treat the general public is in order, so we can stop this free ride. I am sure that if you look you will probably find many other buildings in St Paul in a similar situation and as has been pointed out, makes the rest of us cover the DEBT.
In this time of tight budgets you would think there would be a greater outrage from those that need to see the Tax dollars rolling in to keep the budgets balanced would be looking closer at the books and following up on some of these things.

Is there any reason to think GSE intends to pay their bills? Ever?
Well if you can blow off a million in just taxes, and god knows how much for other companies that had to sue them.... it kinda shows a pattern wouldn't you say?
Most chemical refinery equipment only lasts 10 years or so.
You have done your research haven't you? :-)
Is 2007 around the time when they'd be hitting 10 or 11 years of operation?
in 2007 they will still only be 7 years old, but at the rate they are running through cash and running up the tab, it would seem that maybe the collectors will start calling if not before certainly by then.
Legally, they won't even have much in the way of assets to seize.
Well, that parcel of property is prime real estate. There are so many other uses for it, once the ethanol plant is gone, that it does have enough value for us to get back what they owe us. Now remember that TAX leins are the FIRST IN LINE to get any money, so if we end up with the property the city could benefit.
Now an interesting side note is if anyone has noticed they have had a sign to contact so and so at the Welsh Co's for information about, well Welsch Co's doesn't even know... So it looks like it's listed for sale but no one knows what is for sale or rent or what the deal is.
Never be surprised by GSE, nor the power (and stupidity) of the ethanol industry as a whole. We are all saps following this holly grail of GREENER FUELS, RENEWABLE FUELS, and can't see that we are creating more pollution than we are saving in the long run.
As always the GSE Website is up and running at http://209.98.144.66/GSE/ we even have a comment or complaint board up and running so drop in and leave a note. (Now I have to update the pages to include the new stories and information, thanks DIANE :-) )
