Good for Mayor Kelly! Two years ago when Kelly ran for office, he refused the opportunity to participate in TC Quorums forum. He also refused to answer Lavender Magazine's questionaire - and was widely panned in the press for doing so.

Since being Mayor, Randy Kelly has gone out of his way to distance himself from Norm Coleman's policies regarding the gay community. Kelly issued a gay pride proclamation without fanfare when asked. When the police brutality incident happened at Lucy's bar (a lesbian bar), Kelly made it a point to send a letter to the editor to Lavender stating that this incident didn't represent the City of St Paul.

Kelly's reasoning for opposing repealing the sodomy law (he thought it wouldn't pass - therefore he didn't want it to pass in committee and go to the floor) - didn't make much sense.

Still - as Mayor of St Paul, Kelly seems to go out of his way to reach out to the gay community. I appreciate that. Perhaps if he had to do it again, he would vote differently on sodomy repeal.
