Some of you may remember the discussion of local control of
non-conforming uses in the House at the State Capitol.  This issue was
never heard in the senate.  Now here is the extremely bad news....

Abrams� amendment passed, 71-61.  It basically does away with any local
control of
non-conforming uses.  It was tacked on to the Senate bill regarding
zoning moratoria.  I assume the issue now gets decided in conference
committee.

If you would like your city to be able to have control of things ranging
from gun ranges to sex shops to billboards, you need to contact your
senator and raise the red flags.  Powerful industry forces (billboards,
auto dealerships) are at work here.  This is not good for cities.
