Growing your own food is bunk To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed "Remember:
Only you should be growing and handling the food that
you eat. Anytime a butt scratching profit pimp handles
food that you will eventually eat, your heading for
trouble. Only you should handle your own food."

[While living off the land like an Amish farmer is an
admirable goal, society as we know it would fall if we
returned to a society of individualist agrarians. If
we were all spending our time and effort growing
enough foodstuffs to support ourselves, we'd have to
own small farms with varied livestock. We'd have to
invest in equipment and training and seed. We'd need
different land distribution. ]

I wouldn't think that having a small home garden would
require all this, do you?

[We wouldn't, as a society, have resources available
to create medications, have doctors, or higher
education, much less national defense. ]

Doctors and medications can be replaced with natural
remedies. Education is a nice and noble goal and we do
need more of it and less national defense. Again, I
don't think that having a small personal garden in the
back yard would lead to all this.

[You could have no factory workers if every person was
required to raise their own food. ]

Those factory workers don't need more work, they need
more income. It's seems that their too damm busy
working instead of demanding an income.

[Those unable to master agriculture (the retarded, the
indigent, the elderly or the infirm) would simply die
unless they allowed someone else, perhaps a "butt
scratching profit pimp" to handle their food for them.
]

Even a small garden produces more food that one person
or even a family can reasonably eat. If each of us
would donate, even 1 hour per week, nobody would go
hungry. Best of all, there would be no profit to pay
for, just cost and labor, if applicable.

[I think this idea is pretty stupid. There's nothing
wrong with allowing other people to handle your food,
grow it, prepare it or deliver it. ]

I would generally agree, providing that these people
care about you. Those "butt scratching profit pimps"
only care about what's in your wallet. If you got the
money, they got the time.

[Task specialization vastly increases our society's
techological level and standard of living. It's a good
thing. Mary Baker East Side ]

Yes, it does do this, but it also allows us to be
controlled by the controllers of society as well. It's
a lousy trade-off for the working stiff.

Thank you for your response.
