Bring on the smoking ban! Saint Paul should ban smoking in bars and
restaurants for all the reasons previously posted on this forum.

In the meantime, let's have some courtesy from smoke filled
establishments. Axels Bonfire on Grand comes to mind. Axels must be
one of the most discourteous businesses in the city. Bonfire has these
cutesy little louvered windows on the Grand Av side of their cancer
factory. Unfortunately these windows open. The first few times that I
walked in front of the place, I thought - WOW there must be a whole lot
of smoking going on in there. The sidewalk area reeked of tobacco
smoke. About the third time I was assaulted by these fumes as I walked
in front of Bonfire I realized that these windows opened. The smoke
(and all the accompanying carcinogens) wafts out onto the sidewalk area.
THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW!

Smoke away if you must but the following conditions should prevail:

1. Taxes on cigarettes should reflect the true cost to society of these
drug delivery agents. Four dollars a pack would not be too much. 2.
Consequences for selling cigarettes to underage people should include
jail time. 3. Smoking in public buildings, parking lots, sidewalks, the
Farmers Market, State Fair, etc. should be banned. 4. Anyone who
exposes a child to tobacco smoke should be fined and jailed.
