Thanks Erin - I was so busy today with the Police Reserves at Cinco de Mayo that I
wasn't able to let the list know the outcome of the Mayor's news conference this
morning. Chief to be, Senior Commander Harrington, was in our parade today, on the
Mayor's "float".

I want to thank everyone who cared enough to give the committee input into the
selection process - both at the beginning and during the forums last week. I want to
thank the committee for their 100% total participation. I want to thank city staff -
Human Resources - for their support and assistance to me and my co-chair, Todd Jones
(who I also thank).

Finally, I want to thank the St. Paul Police Department and Chief Finney for giving
the committee nine qualified applicants and five very qualified finalists for the new
chief. We are very proud of our police department, and all the officers serving us.

Thank you Mayor Kelly.

Gloria Bogen
co-chair, Police Chief Examination Committee

BY ROBERT INGRASSIA and MARA H. GOTTFRIED
  Pioneer Press

St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly on Saturday named Senior
Cmdr. John Harrington to serve as the citys 50th
  police chief.

The mayor made the announcement in his crowded office
packed with well-wishers, including the seven City
Council members and other public officials, as well as
longtime police buddies of Harrington and community
  activists.
