-------------------------------------------------- REMINDER: Only 2 Posts Per Day Per Person -------------------------------------------------- Sorry, Paul, but I'm with Dave on this one.
I can remember riding the buses in D.C. as a kid and having to put up with folks smoking and having it stink up my clothes. At 9 in the morning. I never did like it then, and I don't see how it's any different when it comes to smoking in restaurants or other "public" places. I know many Americans, Europeans, and Asians view the world as just a big toilet to pollute however we see fit--smoking everywhere, cigarette butts everywhere, trash in the canals and streams--what have you. It's certainly one way to live. But not a good one, I don't think. If people have to smoke, well, okay, I see no point in banning it. Never would work. But controlling where it happens is perfectly permissible--and should be the priority of every city. Because I think people should be able to choose how long they get to live, all things being equal, and those smokers that don't care about longevity aren't entitled to take a few years off other people's lives just so they can enjoy their habit in public. And yes, Andrew, I think motorcyclists should be required to wear helmets. I guess I'm just a silly stickler when it comes to common sense issues and all.
