St Paul E-Democracy"What about those of us who are self-employed and work from home? It doesn't seem very helpful to invite a high school student to sit in my basement with me and watch me send emails for 4-6 hours.
How does someone who is self-employed or works from home participate in a job shadow program?"

Highland Park"You can still offer to host a job shadow. The student would definitely get a good idea of what a self-employed position is like. They should know that in your line of work, you spend lots of time in front of a computer. Observing how you do what you do and being able to ask questions about your "industry" are the two most valuable features of a job shadow."

Humboldt High"We at Humboldt have discussed many forms of Job Shadowing. It may be a one hour to a day on-site visit, an individual experience, or a group taking a tour and listening to people tell about what they do. We also realize that some jobs can not be shadowed due to liability and other reasons.
Are there people willing to come to the schools and demonstrate or participate on panels for jobs and careers? We need people to think outside of the box and make this work for all. Any suggestions?"
