        REMINDER: Online Job Shadow Survey
       ------------------------------------

Just want to let you know that the information coming in for our survey has been VERY helpful and the comments quite insightful. Some samples are included below.

The data being collected is being shared directly with the staff in the schools who are organizing these job shadow programs and has already begun to answer some of their questions.

If you haven't already, please consider taking a few minutes to complete this survey, your feedback is VERY helpful!

Some of the responses that we've got so far to one of our open-ended questions:

----------------------------------------------------
What suggestions do you have for recruiting business
partners or non-profits to offer job shadows at their
workplace?
----------------------------------------------------

"Attend Job Fairs and talk to company representatives at the booths about possible contacts. Many of them are HR people. Offer incentives through business/civic organizations -- annual luncheon, sponsor status, etc."

"Send them this survey! And then follow up with some good examples of successful job shadowing experiences."

"Communicate with Human Resources of the company"

"Dive into the resources within the families at the school. Ask them to consider a job shadow and advocate at their place of employment. Hold a career fair and do a workshop for employers before the fair starts about job shadowing. Use the fair as a recruitment tool."

"Contacting the MN Council on Non-Profits to reach Executive Directors Chamber of Commerce Lists for businesses."

"Sometimes there is a lot of work done on the computer and so it makes it difficult to have someone watch you work at your desk for 3-6 hours. I would think that by offering options on length of time and suggesting informational interviews would help. When students come prepared with questions it opens up the dialogue."

"Again, with a more structure program intent the success of getting others to join is more to happen. Most people want to know what they are committing to and if the school is able to answer these basic questions and provide some sort of structure(with some flexibility) I believe it'll be easier to recruit..."

"Ask the businesses to provide release time to employees."

"Tap the Chamber of Commerce and talk about the program goals and positive outcomes."

"Have students & their hosts do presentation at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast, or other professional groups."

"Keep it simple for them to participate. Make it easy for direct contact with the program supervisor. Students who are motivated are much easier to work with, so a good match is critical."

"Personal contacts: if we all just call up people we know and ask them, most will do it because we can explain how it does (and doesn't) work right there during the call. An even more refined version of that that I've suggested before is to have the schools generate a list of interests and needs and post that somewhere"

"cold calling area businesses"
