Hi All!
This is strictly left-field, but I am gonna toss it out to see if it rates discussion.
When I consider a major purchase, I always have in mind the extra half a percent
sales tax in St Paul versus Falcon Heights and other suburbs.
I used to be so anal about it that I wouldn't shop in St Paul at all when the
increase went into effect. Over time, one tends not to think about it, and I
would guess that 99.9% of purchasers in St. Paul don't even know or think about
it.
But it sure raises alot of revenue for "Saint Pawl" as Nahmy used to say.
I wonder whether the City could get away with adding another quarter percent to
the sales tax to help the State pay for our very own ballpark, which would in
turn generate it's own additional taxes and lease fees.
Just a wild and unusual thought.
This isn't going to happen in St Paul. The Twins are just using St Paul to try to drive up the offer from Hennepin County. Personally - living in Minneapolis - I'd rather see St Paul citizens stuck with the tax increase than Minneapolis. St Paul is being played for the fool. Remember how it went when this issue was almost going to a referendum the last time?

Saying creationism deserves equal time with the theory of evolution in the classroom is like saying I deserve equal time with Pavarotti at the Sydney Opera House.
