. . .and then when Councilman Thune was toying with the idea of funding new
stadia with a restaurant tax, it went like this:  

"When will elected officials learn not to turn their backs on the
constituencies that put them in office.  Yes, folks, it's the very thing
that's destroying the American political system.  It's barely a month since
Dave Thune's election and already. . . "

One gets the distinct impression there's one of these canned rants for
every occasion, all based on the one thing that's killing American
politics.  With so many sole causes of the demise of American politics, I
can only say it's a good thing someone's keeping track.
