It is just getting harder and harder for us to pretend that Saint Paul,
Bloomington, and MPLS are leaders in providing smokefree air for all
workers as Massachusetts becomes the 6th smokefree workplace state. For
those of you who think it should be done by the state legislature, 100
cities and towns in MA, including Boston, had passed local ordinances
and these local ordinances provided the momentum for the legislature.

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney signed a statewide smokefree
workplace law Friday, clearing the air in all workplaces, including
restaurants, bars, and clubs beginning July 5.

Massachusetts joins five other states -- New York, Connecticut, Maine,
Delaware,
and California -- that already provide clean air in the workplace.

As someone who has worked for many years to pass a comprehensive law at
the state level I have got to wonder how these other states have managed
to actually pass a law and we can't even get a hearing in Minnesota most
years. Must be we need to pass 100 local ordinances before we can get
the attention of the House and the Governor.
