On Monday, June 28th, two of the Munchkins from the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz" will be coming to the Mounds Theatre. Their visit was only confirmed very recently. Because it is extremely short notice, I thought I would spread the word directly via email.
The Block-Head Tent of the Sons of the Desert (the local Laurel & Hardy fan club) are sponsoring the show. Here is a summary of the evening's activities:
We wish to welcome you to Munchkindland as we follow the yellow brick road over the rainbow to the land of Oz for the rare opportunity to meet two living legends of cinema history: WIZARD OF OZ "Munchkins" Karl Slover and Jerry Maren. Karl Slover played a Trumpeter and Sleepy Head in the WIZARD OF OZ and also starred in BLOCK-HEADS with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Jerry Maren was a member of the Lollipop Guild and handed Dorothy the lollipop in the WIZARD OF OZ. He also starred with the Marx Brothers in AT THE CIRCUS as well as in many other movies.
The evening will feature an on-stage interview and question & answer session, plus film clips including the "Munchkinland" sequence from OZ, Jerry Maren's interrogation scene with the Marx Brothers in AT THE CIRCUS, Karl Slover's elevator scene with Oliver Hardy in "BLOCK-HEADS" and other surprise clips.
Karl and Jerry will have rare assorted souvenir photographs available for purchase which they will gladly autograph. By purchasing your admission tickets and photograph in advance, you are guaranteed to take a photo with the Munchkins as their personal gift to you. Advance purchase of tickets are recommended as space is limited.
Advanced tickets: $7 adults; $5 children (12 and under) In addition, a personally autographed photo of a Munchkin can be purchased for $15 in advance. This includes getting to take a photo with the Munchkins with your own camera.
Prices will be higher at the door: $10 adult; $6 children (12 and under); $20 for an autographed photo plus a "take your own photo"; $5 for "take your own" photo only.
