I consider the metro area my area; I consider cities more democratic and
un-corporate than higher levels.

I am a member of the StPaul/4th Congressional District Greens, who ran
candidates last election for StPaul council and school board. Even tho
neither won election, I think we (Elizabeth Dickinson and Richard
Broderick, and volunteers) helped shift the issues and agenda to the more
progressive stance we see today.

I supported Mpls Greens Dean Zimmerman, Natalie Johnson Lee and Annie
Young; Roseville DFL Amy Ihlan; now Greens Tom Taylor, Becki Smith, and
Jay Pond in Mpls, and Roger Westall in StPaul. Advances in Mpls/StPaul
will be reflected in Roseville, eg on smoking ban and limiting big boxes.

A jazz and poetry fan, I want to hang out at the (StPaul) Artist's
Quarter, but I can't stand the smoke. I like many places in the metro
area, and don't want to pay extra tax for a new stadium, and don't want
big boxes crowding out the small businesses and co-ops and local roads I
much prefer....

In short I identify with the metro area - bigger than one city, and
smaller than the state or country. I/we have close to zero influence on
the US president and Congress (99% corportate bought), somewhat more on
the legislature (75% corporate bought??), but demonstrated influence on
(parts of) metro areas.
