I am amazed that Macalester College is taking a $500,000 bath on this closing. They will doubtless expand their fundraising efforts to try to make up for this loss. I expect that it is their High Winds fund that is taking the hit. That fund is supposed to be (paraphrased from years past) to help preserve and improve the beauty and serenity of the neighborhood. That fund has nowhere near the amount of money that the endowment has.
