A thousand+ thanks to Jennifer Armstrong for the incredibly comprehensive guide to school enrollment and to Shauna Croom for the community ed links -- these are incredibly helpful and much appreciated.
As a school board member, I'm really sorry when anyone has trouble finding out how to enroll in school (or anything else they want to know). For budget reasons last year for the first time we did not mail the school choice catalog to every household in the city. The one good thing is we got far fewer complaints from nonparents about the waste of mailing it to everyone...but Mary Baker clearly points out the down side. FYI, in addition to mailing to current families, we did send it to the birth household address on record at the county for all 3-4 year olds, placed it at the 200+ locations where Family Times is distributed, did that same with all the sites where the Hmong Times is distributed, and put it in libraries. Clearly we missed some people, however, and again, I apologize. I expect that next year there will be further strategies to penetrate more broadly and deeply (short of sending this big catalog to all households); perhaps at least a multilingual postcard to all households so we get basic information to all families. Please let me know if you have any specific suggestions for that -- your good ideas are always welcome! And as always, please contact me directly if you hit brick walls on anything related to our St. Paul schools. I'm happy to do whatever I can to help. -- Anne Carroll, St. Paul School Board _______________________________ Anne R.
