Isn't this a lovely intense discussion for Independence Day? I'm kind of enjoying it,
if people could try not to get too heated. The rules about what constitutes public
property seem odd to me. Wasn't there a big deal about the MOA a couple years ago,
when the court ruled that they could ban demonstrators or even just people canvassing
for a cause or political party? It seems to me that a prof from the U - Carol ?? a
geographer - argued that the mall commons area was like a town square. But the court
said no. I know there are specific rules about staying on the sidewalk at Como park -
or there used to be. Whether a public sidewalk can be leased seems iffy to me. Seems
we need some information here - anyone know the actual law?

As to in-your-face politics, I think it's a matter of politeness. One should be able
just to say "no thanks," but it seems to me that walking out in public means making
yourself accessible. If someone shoves a flyer in your hand that says "stone the
president," you have a right to call the cops, but if he offers you a flyer that says
"defeat the President," that's free speech. I really don't like the idea that the
market manager can decide what's acceptable.
