The Veto of the smoking ordinance already came last week. I posted Mayor Kelly's Veto message in the forum (see archives).
Any more details or ideas about what this non-smoking night might look like? I might suggest starting with one restaurant and inviting folks who support smoke free restaurants to all show up on one evening. Given limited time and resources, I would be careful not to raise expectations too high. Additional events could be held at additional locations in the weeks to come. I like the idea, because anything that gets people out of their homes and talking about important issues is a good thing. If anyone wants to take the initiative, feel free to pick a time and location and post an announcement in this forum (for a planning meeting - or small test event). Mayor Kelly appears not to understand what a majority of Minnesotans are asking for, particularly families & others of us who would actually hang out at a bar for more than an hour if they weren't so smoky! I have been trying for a WEEK to find a place to meet a few friends that is not breathing-impaired. Try this website to see what I found: http://www.ansrmn.org/SFRests.htm In the interest of organizing an event to support all currently non-smoking restaurants, and others who will be willing to give it a try for one day, why don't we organize a non-smoking night to support restaurants and bars that are already accommodating our request. This will be a great way to showcase those establishments that are on the non-smoking bandwagon and to boycott those that are not! Anyone care to join me in planning an event? Remind me again when Kelly's planning the veto, or did he already (sorry I now live in Roseville, but my heart is in St. Paul)? Maybe we could plan for the Thursday night right after the veto!
