This discussion is fascinating and maybe already too complex, but I want to throw in another related issue. There's a discussion going on right now on the MPR forum about whether Prairie Home Companion should be dropped because Keillor's too political. A piece in the Strib is quoted to demonstrate how very leftist he is, and then the argument took off, relating to public funding and where its limits should lie. I see it as not only related to this discussion, but also to the stadium debate. If the Guthrie and MN Orchestra get public money, why shouldn't a stadium? To be very honest, my answer is well, just because! See the Keillor discussion on www.news.forum.publicradio.org. There are other areas besides news, but this will lead you to the free speech issue.
