but you and others thought it necessary to collect signatures to make sure a
ballpark referendum happened.  taxation without representation i think was the
mantra.

it seems to me that when you are on the wrong side of the council's vote, that
is when you push to put the issue on the ballot.

I for one do not in any way, shape or form, think the smoking ban belongs on
the ballot.  Let those elected to handle this, handle this which they are
doing.  Those "courageous" councilmembers will eventually come up with
something all of can accept.  If you don't like it, don't reelect them. 
Remember, voting for the opponent because you don't like the incumbent will not
guarantee you will get what you want.
