As to a boycott I am sure the anti-smokers could say that there already is a boycott and that there is an army of people waiting for the bars to go smoke free so that they can drop a ton of money on them. So, prove that wrong...
Well this could be true, but have they even attempted to make their voices known? I have not heard of any mass group of non-smokers ever attempt such a thing.... maybe it's too hard to organize people to do this and just simpler to get the council to do it.
I know that when I get something I don't like from a company (be it a lousy big mac, cold fries, or an enviornment I don't care for, product that is mislabled etc.. ) yet I like their products. I tell them what I don't like.. I tell them about the rude cashier at the checkout counter.
You know what I have gotten so far? Almost complet satisfaction .... Not only have I gotten so many free tickets to eat free food, or been satisfied in other ways (rebates, refunds). Let them know that I am not happy and if you want me as a customer you better change things. You know the first rule of business? THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT... if you want their money in your place of business THE CUSTOMER (no matter how insane) IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
See I am talking about one of the Non-Smoking organizations to take the lead... Tell your membership to start making calls... Make a reservation at a resturaunt and ask if they are smoke free? When they say no but we have a no smoking section say "OH well thanks anyway, I will take my business elsewhere." Follow that up with letters to the owners saying "I was planning on bringing my party of 4 to your place but found out you allow smokers, and I don't do business that is unconcerned for the health of it's patrons or employee's". Organize marches of drinkers to go to a bar, as soon as you see or smell smoke find the owner or manager and tell them your taking your group and $$$ elsewhere.
See I guess what an economic boycott amounts to is people actually taking account of where they spend their money and not asking government to do it for them. Where do bans end? Smoking? Drugs? Abortions? _( insert thing you dislike here )_?
Educate the business owners that YOUR money is going to places that accommodate you the MAJORITY and not some minority. (Ohh now that I read that, I bet that sets off some alarms).
