Gail, you are reading things into my message that are not there.

Rather than smacking me upside the head, maybe you need a course in logic.
I did not say that every smoker sits on a bar stool and doesn't vote. I
didn't accuse you, or smokers in general, of anything. I was a smoking
liberal for many years before I became a nonsmoking liberal. Dave Thune
is a smoking liberal. I don't think liberals, either smokers or
nonsmokers, are going to vote for Bush, no matter how they feel about the
smoking ordinance.

I said that there are smokers who sit in bars and don't vote, and that
attempting to recall Kelly at the Nov 3 election might inspire them to go
and vote, and hurt Kerry. This is true, and I don't want to divert
attention from this fact because your feelings are hurt. This isn't
about you at all. Good grief.

of whether a Kelly recall is on the ballot Nov 3, so it would be nuetral
for John Kerry. There will be some smokers who will come out just to
support Kelly, and meanwhile vote for Bush. I can easily imagine
bar-owners giving free drinks to smokers with "I Voted" stickers. I
think it is better not to poke at them, and let them sit out the
election on the barstool, sucking away with their buddies.

> This could be a good idea for a special election in january, but not if
it happens on Nov 3. Kelly may very well lose a St Paul vote, but the
smokers who show up at the polls to support Kelly would add to the
statewide support for Bush. Every vote counts. Lets not encourage
non-voters to show up and vote for Bush."

written a kajillion letters to the editor (some even published) and I
resent being compared to a Limbaugh barstool jockey who would throw away
her vote because Kelly vetoed the smoking ban. If you were across the
table from me right now I would smack you upside the head and force you
to listen to my 40 years' experience as a dedicated, marrow-deep,
populist , civil rights champion, anti-war before you left grade school
(pre-school?), SMOKING LIBERAL.
