There is no reason for Gail to punish herself. I also understood the intended humor in Gail's comments (or at least I hoped that I did). However, a wealth of experience in moderating this forum suggested to me that some folks were likely to misunderstand the post.
I made my comments and included a :-) to suggest that participants not take the message/threat too seriously. We all need to be careful about how we use humor\sarcasm in this forum. It usually backfires. This incident need do no more than serve as a reminder of that fact. Consider using a smiley face, if you want to underline the humor or levity of your point. ;-) Have a wonderful Saturday afternoon, Tim Erickson List Manager -----Original Message----- From: "Gail" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sat, 7 Aug 2004 08:57:18 To:"St. Paul Discuss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [StPaul] Political Persuasion Tim and Bob have taken me to task for being nasty and I apologize. My note was supposed to achieve a humorous tone and obviously failed. Starting a note with "doggonit" and using an expression like "smacking upside the head" were intended to take a light approach to making a serious point. Not having smiley faces to insert, Tim's right that I could at least have used a ;-o) but I really thought the tone would be clear. And "Good Grief" is part of the Charlie Brown lexicon. So I'm throwing myself off the forum for a month. Serves me right.
