First on the Outrageous thread.

I believe that this is another level of government. If the City Council had their own
legal staff, what would that cost? Would the City Attorney and the new legal staff
file suits against each other to get legal clarifications? Who would pay for all of
these legal actions going back and forth?

This is not an idea I would favor in any way. We have enough bureaucracy without
having to have people picking and choosing which City legal service they are going to
engage to get the outcome they desire. We need the city to have one legal
representative entity.

On A Thought About Our Place.

I agree that Garrison Keiller is basically advocating a socialist agenda, advocating
for me to pay more in taxes so those with less can have equal to what I have, or
should I say so that those who won't/can't do for themselves should have
anything/everything I have. Yet I don't see Mr Keiller giving up his exclusive digs.

Carlton is a better (maybe that's the wrong word, more prestigious) school than the U
and is more expensive. Why? Because I am forced to pay taxes that support the U so
that the U's tuition is unrealistically low.

What does Amazon charge for the Bill Clinton book....Too much, any amount is too much
for that book, now if I could get my hands on a copy of Unfit for Command.

Which is more expensive a private car or public transportation. That depends on whom
you ask. The taxpayers who don't use public busses it costs a lot to have them. I
pay lots of taxes to support public transportation, since it is not a viable operation
capable of self support.

No I don't think that taxes are the only thing to look at and public institutions are
necessary. We just can't say that one is "better" than the other. There is a trade
off. We need both public and private enterprises, we just need to reign in and
control the public spending. We need to get rid of public employee unions, they work
for us, the taxpayer, and should be reminded of that. I knew that the 20 years I
worked for the public. We need to look at duplication of services from
city's/county's/state levels. The reason for so much duplication is control, as in
the city council having it's own legal entity. Once someone/an entity has control of
power they are not going to give it up without a fight. Let's work on creating less
dependence on government and more reliance on ourselves, our families and our
communities to help provide for those in need.
