Recent census data shows that Minnesota has the 6th highest median family income in the nation. http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Products/Ranking/2003/R14T040.htm
We consistently rank among the top states by whatever measure of prosperity you want to choose. How did this come about? Isn't it possible that people like Floyd B. Olson understood that to build a prosperous, pleasant society, the public needed to invest in public education, build a great University, create cultural institutions and generally provide for the common good? The vision that these people had and their willingness to implement that vision has played a significant part in the properity we enjoy today. The Taxpayers League now wants to tell us that the process by which this state prospered for so long is all wrong; that places like Alabama and Mississippi have gotten it right and we should emulate them and turn our backs on our own heritage. This ridiculous attempt to replace Floyd Olson's name with Reagan's ought to outrage anyone who has any sense of pride in the state.
