While humor is used often in person to offset uncomfortable situations or diffuse our own discomfort with internal racism or misogyny, the written work carries great impact and the fact that our posts are archived and can be quoted selectively later (or misquoted...) concerns me.

Pardon me if I take offense at what I perceive to be outright classism and misogyny (thanks to Erin for the well-articulated post on this point), and don't believe a little winky face makes it okay.

Dennis' response to me after that post: "Lighten up, Cristy."

My response: "Get over yourself, Dennis."

I tried to withhold any response, believe me, especially because I don't approve of offline posts in this vein. I'm with Dave Thune on the fact that the keyboard is often quicker than the brain... maybe we all suffer from that occasionally, and I'm no exception.
