As a community, we don't always catch all kids before they make big mistakes, take wrong turns, and fall, hard. I am extremely glad that we found this youngster and put him in a place where he, and those around him, are safe. But it's not OK that he got this far; he needed enormous amounts of help years and years ago, and will for many years to come. I have one that doesn't always make good choices, hasn't fully healed. Whenever I get around to being angry about it I get angry at the Ramsey County Family Court system that took 2.5 years to get him out of an alcoholic, abusive home environment. More than that, I get mad at his birth mother who still doesn't have a problem (at least not one that isn't his fault). We ALL have a responsibility to make sure that children arrive at school ready to learn. Local government services (courts, child protection, police) play a BIG role in making sure kids are safe. All to often I hear, "Our hands are tied." At what point do we say kids come first? --Jennifer Armstrong Payne/Phalen _____________________________________________ To Join: St. Paul Issues Forum Rules Discussion Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/
