Checked out the restrip on W 7th. The restriping doesn't start until you get to Jefferson (out-bound) - by that time much of the traffic has peeled off w 7th. I don't think it does anything to improve congestion. [Although the speed limit enforcement at Jefferson+ will certainly slow traffic.]
As to the supposed benefits of restriping listed earler, I would dispute much of that as unsubstantiated dogma. The street is exactly the same width and the traffic density is therefore higher and it's not doing jack to make the street more pedestrian friendly - if anything it's worse. Some turns are easier, some are harder, it has the perceived benefit that traffic is slower but it's still there. People like it because they think (at least my neighbors do) that it'll annoy drivers and they'll drive somewhere else. Wrong. Where else? It's a fad. Want less traffic, more mass transit? Trade income tax $ for gas tax $. Of course, you'll have to change the state constitution for that. _____________________________________________ To Join: St. Paul Issues Forum Rules Discussion Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/
