'Vote' early gets new meaning

As many as 30,000 kids could participate in mock election - and ballots will
be counted. Rick Carey plays down the importance of his contribution to the
electoral process this year. But he's also aware it might bring more voters
to the polling places years down the road. Pioneer Press 11/1/2004

H. Edgar Hix: Punished for expressing his feelings in poetry Is criminal
conviction for using "bad" imagery in poetry absurd? No, it's St. Paul,
Minnesota, USA. A 17-year-old poet was arrested for using guns, violence and
suicide as images in poems. Arrested, convicted and awaiting sentencing the
15th of next month (Star Tribune, Oct. 19). Yes, a 17-year-old writes about
suicide in school and they arrest him. As one who tried suicide when I was
18, I can tell you that arresting me would not have been a big help. As one
who tried it again at 36, in part because I got no help when I was 17, I can
tell you that this can have long-term ramifications, all of them bad. Star
