What's On Your Ballot? Find out......

The East Side is a beehive of voting activity this morning. Long lines
at my polling place, the Marion Center (the old Mounds Park Hospital)
until 8 a.m., after 8, there was about a 15 minute wait. Stopped by the
Swede Hollow DFL Club office next to Swede Hollow Cafe and it was full
of volunteers picking up literature, making phone calls, and driving
voters. This is the way democracy is supposed to work!

I just got back from the polls where people were predictably lined up
around the block. I showed up at 6:45 and waited in line for more than
a half hour.

Thanks for the report.
I'm anxious to hear from other folks about their experiences at the
polls. Please, report back to us once you've voted!
Also, be sure to indicate where your polling location is. It will be
interesting to notice differences in various parts of the city.
Best wishes,

Arrived at St. Matt's (West Side - precinct 2-13) at 7:30 and finished
voting 23 minutes later (voter #126). Everyone went through two lines,
one
to sign in and get your ballot and one to vote. When I left, there
were no
more people lined up to sign in, but a couple new voters coming through
the
door.
Amazingly, there are about twice as many people with a last name from
A-L as
from M-Z (they also divided us into two lines to sign in).

Arrived at Galtier school in SD 66 W4 P 16 at 7:15; out by 7:45. The
line was maybe 50 people, but it moved fast! I was the 145th voter.
When I left, the line was longer than when I came in, but still moving
well. The election judges were very efficient-- I was impressed!

Interesting, GB. We must have all your alphabetic ends over here.
Skluzacek. Wzwrsniak. Trotsky.
Here's a note I sent our neighbor this morning (our poll was in the
basement of St. Whatshisname at Victoria & Armstrong, W2-P6).
"What a neighborhood scene at the polls this morning. I'm almost in
tears
over the whole thing. We brought the girls down, discussing the new
Uruguayan "regime change" en route. Then we see Linda and Jack leaving
as
we go in. She says "We need to talk, but later..." I thought, "F&ck!
We're simply cancelling their votes now!"
Inside, our line (A-O) had zero people while there were others lined up
15
deep for some reason. I signed my name, walked around the 15 N-Z's,
and
there in another line I never stood in was Soy. He was all decked out
in
his suit coat and a tie - I think it might have been his first vote.
My
eyes get wet reliving it. I almost don't even care if he voted for
Bush,
it was so moving!
So he's in that line to get something else, I guess, but we just walked
up
to a guy, got a ballot, and voted "au naturel" at the table. The
voting
machine judge stood perfectly behind the line, and the Children Vote
lady
was amazing. Then, all of a sudden, there was Senna voting with her!
And
Jim, and Lyndelle. It was all abuzz, everywhere. On the way up the
stairs
and out the church (go figure) door, a lady who was at the W7/FRF
Annual
Meeting and actually ran for the Board was getting her ass chewed by
her
dickhead man for some stupid thing like her not being where he expected
her
to be.
It was quite a trip. I guess you had to be there, but I hope you get
the
picture. What was the question? ;-) Have fun in your judge role.
Yer a
good Marekin!
I wonder what Howard Dean is doing right now.
I think President Kerry should appoint W to be ambassador to Sudan.

I just got back from the downtown Saint Paul location in Kellogg
Square.
The line there wrapped around the hallways inside the building, and
according to the people at the desk it had been that way since they
opened.
As I walked to and from the polling place, I saw far more people with
"I
Voted" stickers than ever before.
The process was quick and efficient for both pre-registered and newly
registered voters alike. Even with the extremely long line, the wait
from
start to finish was about 35 minutes. Everyone was pretty cordial and
uncomplaining about the long line. I didn't see anyone that showed up
and
left before voting because of the wait.
As a side note, I didn't see any of the purported "challengers" on
site...
just election judges and helpers, with one gent off to the side seeming
to
be counting the number of people that voted. I didn't know what to
expect,
but it was a nice experience, with lots of helpful people.

I dropped the kids off at the bus and went to vote for the first time
in my new
neighborhood, Ward 1 precinct 12 (Selby/Dale and Cathedral Hill). I
arrived at the
polls about 8:20 and was voter number 353 out at 8:55 this morning.
Oddly enough, we too had a huge number of people in the A-L line,
while
pre-registered voters M-Z could pretty much just walk in and vote. I'm
pleased to
note there were about a dozen people registering while I was there,
from all ages
and backgrounds. It would have been faster to register on-site than to
wait in line
with the A-L last names!
I have to say I was really moved by the feeling of everyone there. It
was so
hopeful and empowering to see dozens of neighbors peacefully lined up
waiting for
their chance to vote, and each feeling really good about the lines. I
went and
looked up a bit of history at the Secretary of State web site. In
2002, my precinct
had 1,560 voters registered at the start of voting, and an overall
turnout of 1,281
for a 82% turnout among registered voters. So as I left the polls this
morning my
precinct was closing in on a third of the total votes from last time
just two hours
into the day.
Maybe my new neighborhood all votes early, but I'm really feeling
positive about how
this day is starting out!

Voted in my Highwood Hills precinct in 67B at 9:10.
Number 382. Full, but "line" was only 1 or two
people. Turnout seemed up a little, but our precinct
usually gets high turnout. No "Move-on", sign holders,
etc. present.
Swung by six other precincts on way in to work to
check out traffic and see if anyone was out with
signs, etc.:
Battle Creek Elementary, Battle Creek Middle, Conway,
Harding, Wilson Highrise, and Dayton's Bluff
Elementary
Traffic seemed fairly heavy at each though I don't
normally swing buy them so have no base to compare
against.
Irregularities?? Saw 2 Kerry and 1 Bush sign illegal
placed in a public median. 1 group of 4 or 5
somebodies, doing something on the sidewalk outside
the Wilson Highrise location (more than 100 ft from
the doors). They had clipboards and pamphelts of some
sort - weren't any voters around when I drove by.
