Thought everyone might be interested in this short article. Many thanks to the thousands of GREAT volunteers citywide, teachers who taught the voluntary curriculum, the kids who voted, and Kids Voting state director (and former St. Paul CC member) Bobbi Megard and her crew who got this all organized. Let me relate a story from the Kids Voting site where I volunteered yesterday morning: We explained through the ballot with the youngsters as they came in, and in doing so I asked a 3rd grader in St. Paul schools if he realized there were actually 9 candidates for president?! He said with great gravity, "Oh, yes, I learned that from my teacher. She taught us all about the election and how important it is for everyone to vote -- even kids -- and told us to make sure to do that at the Kids Voting booth." We're raising some great young community members here in St. Paul, and the better educated they are about their rights and responsibilities, the better future we can all expect to share. As the polls closed Tuesday night, John Kerry led with nearly 75 percent of the more than 20,000 ballots at the Indian Head Center in St. Paul. But pundits didn't use the numbers to call the state, they won't draw the attention of party officials, and they won't have an impact on who will become the next president.
