But here's my beef (ok, two of 'em): When the value of my house goes up 40%

BUT Diane your taxes actually went down by 5%. A 40% increase in value, only a 35% increase in the taxes means your saving 5% :-) You have to learn Fuzzy Logic and the math that goes along with it... You may recall a few years ago alot of talk about this being a way to make computers think like people. If I recall it failed miserably.

Only someone hypnotized by the current Republican administration's
budget machinations would ever see it as no increase.

Well, now if your talking about actual out of pocket expenses it's pretty hard to hypnotized... But if you use FUZZY math (see example above) you can see that your actually saving money with the current administration(s).. SO I can completely understand why your so happy to stand up and pay your part.

The second beef (and this one's Dan's, mostly) surrounds the fact that one of
my neighbors appears poised to use the bankruptcy laws to avoid a property
tax bill

I would really like to know how you do that.... You don't have to build an Ethanol plant at the expense of City and State taxpayers do you? :-)

Equally PO'ed 20 year tax payer, who is seeing more and more of these "separate" bills arriving almost monthly now for things that used to be on the Tax Bill, not to mention similar increases in property value though I have not done any improvements other than keeping my lawn cut and house painted (which I suppose is more than I can say for some of my neighbors).

Though I do have to hand it to them, 10 years after making a no parking zone in front of my house they finally got around to painting the curb yellow. I guess they must have been in the area and had a half gallon left over.
