Hello All,

On behalf of developers James Garrett and Erick Goodlow and Jay Benanav, I'm
writing to make you are aware of the groundbreaking tomorrow for James
Griffin Garden Rowhouses, a new Housing 5000 project, at St. Anthony and Fry
streets, just west of Snelling and north of I-94.

The groundbreaking featuring Mayor Kelly will take place, tomorrow
(Wednesday), at 1 p.m. on the site. The very brief groundbreaking ceremony
will be immediately followed by a reception at Golden Thyme Coffee, 921
Selby Ave.

This is the first project to be done through the HRA's Small Developer
Program, designed to make it possible for homegrown, new and emerging
developers and contractors to get involved in the city's major development
efforts. It's especially meaningful that this project is dedicated to the
memory of James Garrett's grandfather, Jim Griffin, St. Paul's first African
American Deputy Police Chief, and long time member of the St. Paul School
Board and unparalleled community activist.

This is a very exciting project for Ward 4 because it incorporates green
technology and energy efficiency design principles to in-town living. The
business and residential community enthusiastically welcomes the project as
part of the expanding Midway mixed use revitalization, creating exciting new
housing opportunities along St. Paul's LRT line and in the midst of a
developing retail, office and industrial corridor.

Thanks to HRA staff Tom Sanchez, Readus Fletcher and Director Susan Kimberly
for their leadership in bringing this project to fruition. Congratulations
to PED on this great project.

Hope you can make it!

Jane Prince, Legislative Aide, 651/266-8641
