Chrisy and Lee, thanks for your notes. I strongly agree that we can and should be able to move ahead on both fronts. Sometimes there are conflicts beween economic development and environmentalism - they need to be faced thoughtfully.
But, for example, I thought it was a great tragedy that West publishing moved out of town because * they were not allowed to build up, when their building already meant a certain part of the river was blocked from view on Kellogg * they were not able to work out a deal for land just across the river from downtown. West provided LOTS of high quality, non -polluting jobs. It was very unfortunate that some extreme views prevailed. They left. It sure did not help strengthen St. Paul's job climate, and their movement did not help the natural enviornment either. Overall, I appreciate what folks are saying.
