Oooofff. Chief Harrington gave two of his officers the Medal of Valor for
fatally shooting two severley mentally ill individuals. One a schizophrenic
and the other an emotionally disturbed man with a history of illness.

Now I'm not saying anything about whether or not what the officers did was
right or wrong. But the message the Chief is sending out to the people who
suffer from mental illness is pretty insensitive. One of the officers is being
sued by the family of the man he killed.

To me these Awards look like a reward for the good guys taking the bad guys
out. And the bad guys are the mentally ill who are in crisis. I guess I
would like to see the medal of valor go to some officers who used the tazer or
took a guy down without killing him. Why did he just give it to two cops who
killed mentally ill individuals.

I hope I don't have a crisis. I hope no one wins a medal of valor cuz I'm
fighting monster cats so they kill me. I wish the police department would be
more sensitive to us who struggle with mental illness.
