After an initial bout of e-constipation, my friendly neighborhood
prognosticators and proctologists have provided me with the push and the
laxative I needed to get this out of my system and into the sanitary sewer
of St. Paul democracy. So without further ado or retention, I'm just gonna
let 'er rip and get off this pot. Try to enjoy (oh,"threat to contented
dining ahead"), and please, try not to tell my wife:

Yes, kind of an assinine way to plug a cave. Kinda funny-lookin', too.
But what a tourist attraction indeed! "Come And See The World's First and
Biggest Suppositorium!!! Let Captain Bowell steam you up to the entrance,
protected on both sides by enormous Sphinxters carved into the soft
sandstone. Gather all the intestinal fortitude you can muster, slip into
the Kuwaiti submarine "USS Colin Powell" and lose yourself in the dankness.
When you've had enough, don't forget to grab your complimentary Bowell
Powell Towel upon your withdrawal, and please wipe your feet before you
leave. And please, won't you come again?!"

What really gets me is the complete and utter disregard for
theYIN-YANG-ness of the situation. Subterranean versus Submarine. (Insert
Native American legend here, the one about the Milky Way complementing the
Mississippi - the High Bridge speaks of this curved balance.) We've got a
huge subterranean asset right under our feet but NO, let's plug 'em up and
go underwater instead, where there's even LESS oxygen! If Kelly is a
Libra, I demand he switch zodiacal parties. If I were King, I'd have an
advisory panel of spiritual leaders to prevent my Christian biases from
leading me to such silly ideas. (To prevent wasteful government spending,
they would be paid after they are dead, in whatever currency they choose,
which also avoids any weak dollar problems.)

The sub idea is not a horrible one on it's own, but beneath the surface,
and in the context of the caves, sorry, mines, it looks rather ignorant, as
in "ignoring." Dan's right - there are far higher, terrestrial priorities.
Leave the superfluous stuff to the private sector.

(Rumor has is that part of The SubPlot is to provide an Upper Landing
commutermobile/party room during high water.)

For some reason, this line from Tim Nelson's submarine article struck me
as particularly funny today: "...Seeb said that he does have an idea
about where to put the vessel if it ever got to St. Paul."
