More than 5,500 people rallied at the State Capitol, carrying the message to legislators that school funding is inadequate. Thank you to those who organized walkers and bus riders. Thank you to those who made signs. Thank you to those who stayed behind and took care of young children so their parents could attend the rally. Thank you to those who provided dinner for rally-goers. Thank you to those who donated money so we could provide buses and materials for the rally. Thank you for making phone calls and writing notes encouraging people to attend. It was a cold and windy day, but our mission was important and our message was clear: WE DEMAND ADEQUATE FUNDING FOR OUR SCHOOLS. I was impressed with the number of people from Saint Paul Public Schools at the rally, and their stories about how they are working so hard for our students despite the $50 million in cuts we've had to make in the past five years. They told me it's time to stop the cuts and restore funding for schools. Your participation in the rally made a difference because legislators paid attention. They heard our message. Now it's time to make sure they don't forget it!! It is time for phone calling and letter writing. Please do not let up on this important work. Write or call your senator and your representative and tell them to support Senate Bill 1304 and House Bill 1183 that were introduced late last week. These two bills will restore funding for our schools and allow us to continue providing the programs and services that are making a difference in the lives of our students.
