At 6 p.m. tonight, I learned that the Holman Field floodwall was back in
the bonding bill. Despite the hard work of both Representative Alice
Hausman and Representative Sheldon Johnson, $2 million for the floodwall
has mysteriously reappeared in the latest versions of the bonding bill.

Where is the rest of our delegation on this urgent matter of the
degradation of the river environment and the livability of our
neighborhoods? Senator Pappas, whose West Side neighborhood will be
directly impacted by an expansion of Holman Field Airport, is on the
conference committee for the bonding bill, but we don't know where she
stands on this issue.

If our state senators and representatives support Mayor Kelly's "number
ONE bonding priority," which isn't even part of the city's legislative
agenda, they should be willing to tell us! [With apologies to Rep. Tim
Mahoney who has been straightforward in his support of the MAC
floodwall.]

In the next 24 hours, the bonding bill will be finalized. At this
point, if the Holman Field dike stays in, it will be because our
legislative delegation -- except Alice Hausman and Sheldon Johnson --
supported it.

Our legislators should tell us where they stand on this vital issue that
will directly shape the future of our neighborhoods and our Mississippi
River environment.
