To support Caty and reply to Myke: Remember I-94 was supposed to go
down the Thomas area in Frog Town. The powers that be decided to
create a spaghetti junction and send I-94 in its current path so
they wouldn't have to uproot white citizens who were paying for
their homes. Instead they up-rooted black citizens who owned their
own homes and split a community.

Where to begin a response to this post? Do you have a personal
relationship with anyone whose family lost a treasured home or long
fought for business to the construction of your beloved 94? I
doubt
it. I'm not sure who myke is trying to demean with the "would be
historian" comment, but there are plenty of present day African
American
community members/leaders whose families were all but decimated by
the
government's decision to carve 94 straight through the middle of a
thriving African American community rather than down say Summit
Avenue.
Yes, in part the results of this horrific act, might be described
by an
outsider as a "displaced culture." But implying that anyone whose
analysis sees deeper pain and scars stemming from the politically
expedient strategy to destroy the heart of our African American
community is a nostalgic whiner is to try and write off and
minimize the
tremendous negative effects still felt today by African American
St.
Paulites. The disgusting testosterone driven analogy (pun is fully
intended) to the foreskinned planners of the project is not at all
surprising but offensive nonetheless. Finally, I don't know about
Mr.
Golben (what ethinicity is that anyway?) but if 94 disappeared into
some
huge cosmic-justice sinkhole tomorrow I would still be able to
figure
out someway to survive.
