I've been waiting for the Coleman for Mayor website to post an update on
the results of the Ward 2 convention held last Saturday. They are usually
pretty good about about providing the lastest breaking news but I guess
the spin doctor has been called away to help push the Coleman juggernaut to
get it rolling again. :-)
So I'll try to fill in and bring you up to date on the race for the DFL
endorsement for mayor in St. Paul.
The convention was held at Humboldt High School on St. Paul's West Side.
Ward to was allowed to elect 74 delegates to the DFL city convention which
will be held April 30th. It will be at the city convention where the
endorsement for mayor will be decided.
THe delegate count from Ward 2 was:
Ortega - 32 delegates - 43%
Undecided - 22 delegates - 30%
Coleman - 20 delegates - 27%
Add to this total 4 automatic delegates from Ward 2 (Ortega, Pappas,
Mariani, and a DFL city director) and the Ortega delegate count from ward
2 stands at 36.
So in a ward that knows the track record of both the candidates very well
Ortega was the clear front runner and Coleman finished 3rd in the Ward he
use to represent on the city council. Very telling.
The DFl election drama takes center stage tonight in Ward 5 for the 7th
and final ward convention. Visitors are welcome to attend:
