REASON No. 1 TO REPLACE RANDY KELLY: THE FLOODWALL FIASCO
Randy Kelly supports a new floodwall around Holman Field airport. Fine; that may be somewhat forgivable. But it is not forgivable to threaten the funding for many other official city requests, because his unofficial pet project is not funded.
St. Paul Representative Alice Hausman described Kelly's threats in the March 17th StarTribune: "He said if Holman Field is not in the bonding bill, there will be bills authored by the St. Paul [delegation] that will not be signed into law," Hausman said of the Feb. 23 meeting. "He said he would work toward a Governor's veto."
So, Governor Pawlenty put the Holman Field Floodwall back into the bonding bill. Maybe this is one place that endorsing President Bush has payed off for Mayor Kelly.
But the larger picture still confounds me...in an election year, Mayor Kelly threatens to potentially stop all funding for official city requests in order to get funding for his own *unapproved* request for the Holman Field dike?
What other Mayor would personally threaten the city's official legislative agenda in order to advance his own pet projects? What kind of dupes does Kelly think we are? Feel free to answer that question in November.
Both DFL candidates for Mayor bring many unique strengths, and I will be more than happy to actively support the one who gets the DFL endorsement - financially and as a volunteer.
